Why Nerdwerk looks like this now

A playful side project made my own company website look boring. So I changed the look, dropped a word I never liked, and wrote down what Nerdwerk is actually for.

It started with a side project.

I’ve been building onelink.ninja, and I gave it a brand that is playful and a little odd on purpose. Somewhere along the way I noticed how much I enjoyed that: a website with real character, one you would recognise with the logo covered up.

Then I looked at nerdwerk.com again. It was fine. It was also boring.

The word that had to go

The old site said “consulting” in a few places, and I never liked seeing it there.

Fair or not, the word makes people expect three things: it will be expensive, it will come with a lot of documents, and nothing will last once the invoice is paid. That is the opposite of what I want to do. I want to help teams, and I want to build the things people actually want and need.

So the word is gone. What replaced it is a plainer description of the work: find out what’s worth building, prototype it, ship it, and leave the team stronger.

The fun is the point

Building onelink.ninja is fun. And when I think back, it is the same fun I had in every company I worked at: delivering the piece that makes a user light up.

What has changed is how fast I can get there. With years of experience and the AI companions I work with now, I can build faster and better than before. That is a clear economic benefit for the people I build for.

Why doodles

I always liked to draw, and for Nerdwerk, while it’s all technical and code and stuff… it should feel unique and alive and kind of ever changing. And doodles are the best way I know to get that across.

For me a visual should do two things. Tell a story, and look nice. And I think, the Doodle do that. (They are actually a mix of me doing vector art and some AI … but hey … I would never get it done otherwise, and that’s also part of the game.)

Why yellow

The colours are personal. Yellow and blue are the colours of Lower Austria, which is where I live. I had that since the first version of the site, and now I leaned in to it … hard. Might not be for everyone, but it’s unique.

Where this is going

I took a pause before all of this. Family, breathing, sleeping … Now I’m ready, and I know where Nerdwerk should be going.

You are looking at it right now.

If you have an idea that deserves a real try, let’s talk. And if you would rather watch what gets built next, that works too.
